Eclipse Takes On the Indy 500
For over a century, the Indy 500 has been one of – if not THE – biggest events in Indianapolis of the year. Eclipse is proud to be providing staff for this monumental event this year. In honor of the race taking place at the end of May, we’re sharing some facts about the Indy 500 and how you can work one of the most exciting events in the history of racing.
The first Indianapolis 500 was held in 1911, so this year we’re celebrating over 100 years of “The Greatest Spectacle of Racing.” The current race is made up of 33 drivers and 200 laps, totaling 500 miles around the track. One of the most notable aspects of the race is the importance of tradition to drivers, fans, and everyone else involved in pulling off an event of this magnitude. According to Wikipedia, some of the more prominent traditions include “pre-race ceremonies, post-race celebrations, and race procedure. The most noteworthy and most popular traditions are the 33-car field lining up three-wide for the start, the annual singing of "Back Home Again in Indiana," and the victory lane bottle of milk.” Other notable traditions include the 500 Festival Parade, the pork tenderloin sandwich served at concession stands, and radio coverage of the event. Hosting the Indy 500 in Eclipse’s home city of Indianapolis is something we’re extremely honored to be a part of. The race not only provides a reason to (safely) get together, but it also shines a spotlight on all the hard workers of Indiana that come together to make this event great. It provides opportunities to hundreds of people and is ingrained in the culture of Indianapolis, having held its’ inaugural race only 64 years after the founding of Indiana’s capital.
This year, Eclipse has been asked to provide staff for the event which takes place over Memorial Day weekend. This year is particularly special because it’s the first year fans are allowed back (at 40% capacity) since the pandemic. Because of the sheer size of the event, Eclipse will be looking to recruit and hire a large number of people to make the 105th Indy 500 a huge success. Below, we’ll share more information about Eclipse and how you can get involved with working the big race.
Eclipse Staffing + Security was founded in 2011 by Michelle Coy.
